Choosing care for someone you love is hard when every center's website sounds roughly the same. So we put together the questions we would ask if we were sitting where you are now. Print this list, keep it by the phone, and use it on every call.

When you speak with an admissions team, ask:

• Is the facility accredited, and by whom? Ask for the name so you can verify it yourself.
• Who provides the clinical care? Ask which staff are licensed, and whether a physician or nurse is available for medical concerns.
• How is family included? Ask about family sessions, visiting, and how often you will get updates.
• What happens after discharge? A good program builds an aftercare plan before someone leaves, not on the last day.
• How do you measure whether treatment worked? Ask what they track and what they consider a good result.

If an answer is vague or rushed, that tells you something too. A center that respects your questions will take the time to answer them plainly. We are glad to answer every one of these about our own program.
